The Career Planning Support Program (a service of CCRC in collaboration with local high schools, colleges and universities, and community-based education and service organizations) has officially begun. The program can help work out the answers to questions about balancing work, family, and college responsibilities.   

A counselor offers participants help in: 

• reviewing personal situation and needs

• finding information and resources that will help you to make a plan that works for you

• information about professional development opportunities, colleges and university

• help understanding roles in the field and requirements

• help with finding resources, like ESL and child care, to help you get ahead

• assistance with applications and with exploring financial aid

Discussion topics include learning how to:

• Identify, understand, and plan time for all of the “pieces” that are part of college study:

  • Time in classes

  • Time to study, at home or in the library

  • Time to work on assignments

  • Time for registration and financial aid

  • Time to meet with college faculty and advisors

  • Time to get help with improving reading, writing, and/or math skills.  
    

• Take care of work schedule needs before starting a college program

  • Talk with your supervisor to plan any needed changes in your work schedule.

  • Talk with your work “team” about any changes this may mean for them, including, in family child care, the parents of the children you care for.
